what will your choice be?

The threats have been coming in left, right and centre on Iran from the United States because of Iran's nuclear enrichment plans that it claims are for peaceful purposes (i.e.: creating power needed for its major cities).

Yet, so far, we have not seen the US put down its rifles and shotguns in the escalated movement to a nearby future war on Iran.

While I have my own personal views about each party, this post is dedicated to cutting the losses quickly and swiftly by asking both parties to step down from their arms' race and look at the bigger picture of the people that will suffer if the war is conducted and what dyer consequences there will be on the region after that. The aftermath will be our nightmare come true.

There has been a movement in the US from different American Iranian parties that have chosen to fight this course of future action and stop it from ever happening. They have assigned a petition and a blog dedicated to this cause.

The blog is under the title: Stop War On Iran. While the petition online is dedicated to sending a strong message to both the US Congress and President George W. Bush to stop the war on Iran. The petition can be found here. Alternatively, you can also visit the dedicated website to this cause, which is under the name of StopWarOnIran.org.

Help us stop this madness.

lose the hypocricy

Apparently, a Bahraini national has been stripped of his nationality for taking part in an athletic competition in 'Israel' (please see links).

Such things happen in most of the GCC countries since none of them have any diplomatic ties with 'Israel'; or so it would appear. Which is quite sad, since most of these countries secretly take on trade agreements with the Jewish state behind everyone's back, never to announce it, and when all is exposed they break it up over the outcry of their population on how Palestinians are suffering in their occupied lands and how no one is lending a helping hand to them instead.

For instance, you have the Sultanate of Oman who had a trade office in one of the local 5 star hotels a long time back until they closed it down under the excuse of the escalating situation in Palestine along with postponing Muscat Festival back then, too. Saudi Arabia, surprisingly, has one of its members going behind the scenes trying to make things move along for the sake of 'peace in the Middle East'. I don't know about the other GCC countries; but it seems that the state of Qatar is the only country that is open about supporting both the 'Israeli' and Palestine cause by talking very freely about the subject and asking other GCC countries to follow in it's stride.

What is annoying is the fact that the GCC countries bitch about not having any sort of ties with any Jewish establishment or department of state but then again they import all the businesses that have an enormous Jewish shareholding turn-out, like Pepsi, Starbucks, Coca Cola, and even the service based product that we have come to depend on in our daily lives in areas of telecommunications such as the Internet.

All I am trying to say is that I'd like to see us stay on one path and not change it from time to time because of stupid politics in the region or world over. And another thing, the citizen/national/resident shouldn't have to pay for mistakes that the country makes in it's own political matters.

Sorry for this belated greeting, I was supposed to post this yesterday but as they say, it is never too late. The day of Eid is not over yet. Some people had their Eid today & some will celebrate tomorrow in some countries. But I guess that is not important as long as we have an Eid :-)

I wish you all a very happy and peaceful Eid. May Allah accept our good deeds, forgive our transgressions and ease the suffering of all people around the globe. May the blessings of Allah fill your life with happiness and open all the doors of success now and always. Eid Mubarak :-)

Ma3rad al kitaab 2007/ Book Fair 2007

Cairo will host its 39th International Annual Book Fair between January 23rd and February 4th. This years guest of honor at the fair will be Italy.

Look out for Swedish author/photographer Donald Boström who has translated his book Inshallah into Arabic and will be present at the book fair. The book elaborately covers the conflict in Palestine-Israel in photos and shorter articles from 1985 to the late 90's. It is probably one of few books that through the use of photography, gives the reader a clearer view of what really is going on.

I will be attending the fair and hopefully will be able to post pictures from it and I urge those of you who read Arabic to get your hands on this book and spread it amongst you.

freedom? what freedom?

Here in Oman, we boast about the right to freedom of speech that is given to us by Royal Decree of which was issued by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said - the Sultan of Oman. And in many other different Arab countries - including GCC neighbors - we also hear about how people are always given the right to say what is on their minds in order to lessen the gap between the public and their respective governments.

But how far is this statement true?

Not too long ago, there was an Omani woman who was arrested for no known reason other than having 'suggested' ways to improve the ways of living in our communities and what was officially dubbed 'her opinion' in the development process the government of His Majesty was following. She was taken in and interrogated for quite a while. And after that was done and over with she was presented with a slip asking her to sign on a note that she had violated 'national security' over her remarks, and that she should would not return to her previous action that lead to that case.

In other countries, we hear of several people for just speaking their minds. And seriously, if you don't want to develop the country don't go about saying that 'we listen to people's opinion very seriously and take it to consideration'. Because, clearly that is not the case.

Bloggers are no exception in this topic. Several fellow bloggers have been arrested for criticizing the ways of life in their respective countries. In Saudi Arabia, in Egypt, in Turkey, in Bahrain, and even in the United Arab Emirates.

Bloggers are considered the 'unofficial reporters' of the world because of the raw perception that they see through the incidents and happenings that are occuring in their countries and regions. And if that is taken away then all we'll ever have is government controlled media which is just about as truthful as a dirty toilet seat.

Don't take away our right to freedom.

You want to reason with us; make a debate about it and we'll both come to a solution. Because in the end, it's my country, too.

Scenario Dubai 2020

Imagine this scenario by Guy Wilkinson which appeared in the September issue of Hotelier Middle East magazine. Unfortunately I could not find any link to it on the ITP website.

I was invited for a drink at one of those quaint three-star beach hotels along the strip at the Waterfront a few nights ago, and I couldn't find a single person who spoke Arindi. Everyone was speaking Italian! Don't you find that a bit odd, especially as the UAE now has its own official language that tourists are encouraged to learn? My friend was only in RAK for a week, but he could say 'yom tikke' as well as anyone.

The thing is that all these charter flights coming in through World Central for the theme parks and beach districts are creating little neighborhoods where you just have to speak the local lingo to get along. I guess you could say it started with the Chinese community at International City, but now it's like the United Nations.

This one is really scary.

And then they passed the law allowing street restaurants and bars to be licensed. Newcomers to our industry may not know that there was a time when hotels were the only places you could get a drink and catch a live band. Now you see them everywhere.

Although this is just a scenario, but the way things are moving forward, I am afraid this will become a reality soon. Yes tourism has become one of the main source of our income, but is this money worth risking our cultural & religious identity?

Of all the low down rotten schemes that anyone in the world could ever try to think of, this has got to be one the lowest after the class action law suit against the Saudi Arabian royal family being accused to be a part of the 9/11 'conspiracy'.

A new class action lawsuit has been filed against the HH The Ruler of Dubai, Vice President of the UAE by a group of unknown 500 children and several parents - also unidentified - for charges of slavery and starvation amongst many counts against a man who has never in his life ever done anything but give good since the day he was given power to turn his Emirate and his country into the mining landmark of time that it is today.

Rough Times

Who in our lives has not been in rough times in the past or the current present? Who even expects a bright future – regardless of hope? Perhaps no one not even you. Everyone has had their share of the bad times in a phase or two in their past of present lives? Maybe one too many to the point whereby this individual will seek attention to get the comfort they need. What we need to ask in this situation is: how did we get to where we are and why? And what are the possible solutions that are within our grasp that may help us to get our foot on the ground once again?

Problems when faced alone have different outlines and take a good punch at the soul's moral, thus pulling the person further into the vicious cycle. If the person is of strong will then they will recover quickly, easily and without a hint that there was ever such a problem. But what if the person is more vulnerable and sensitive to the environment and the people around them? What happens then? The path of sorrow will only lure the victim into a never ending well of guilt, oppression, perhaps even convince the person of taking their own life. It is these kind of people – although none would stand out and say that they are – that need the greatest of care; psychologically, that is.

The reason I write this is because I have always had this depression status distracting me from life's mild pleasures. Always showing me the downside of things that come my way. It made me see that the slight chances that I had of turning myself around had gone and passed me by because I was too busy with being depressed and counting on my gloomy days to come along and be gushed away by the winter rain that I adore. I was missing out on small chances that could have changed my life profoundly; regardless whether those were slim or thick. The fact was there was a chance. And I had missed it.

So what do I have to say to other people who see themselves in similar situations?

Well; you have to make a pledge to yourself that you're going to change once and for all. No one's going to change you but you – and that is a fact. Some people might take pity on you. But they will do it for all the wrong reasons. If you are seriously seeking attention, then I suggest that you start changing yourself by doing something unfamiliar. Anything. Just as long as it is within the legal bounds, I wouldn't want you to end up in jail or anything, now, would I?

Another thing you can do is to get a hobby. You don't have one? Then get one. Be it sports. Reading. Writing. Even doing the crosswords. Start with something to get your mind to think about something ever so different. Listen to great music. A song that makes you feel happy.

Depression and happiness are two of the same – they are both feelings that are bottled up and if we don't let them out we will blow up. There is a need for ventilation. And the fact that we feel one or the other is that we make ourselves believe in them. We portray to ourselves our lives and how we think of them effects our ways of behavior.

Ask yourself this; howcome is it that when you're happy you're ever so joyful that even if your friends are giving you a hard time, you still feel wonderful?

Here's hoping you always have a great life ahead of you..

That was all a smokescreen.

Big companies have no intention of making this world a better place than they are interested in making the big bucks for their set of revolving wheels.

من منكم سيبدأ باستخدام الدراجات الهوائية لمسافات قصيرة؟ بكل صراحة، بعد إعلان بدأ التسهيلات ع الشوارع في دبي لمستخدمي الدراجات، وخاصةُ أن يكون لهم سير خاص ع الشارع، يجب أن نبدأ كلنا.

حسب ما رأيته في المدينة، الدراجات تباع على سعر ما يقارب الألفي درهم لأحسن الأنواع.

نعم، وأخيرأ، اكتب شيء هنا. هذا المقالة في مدونتي لكن اظن انه موضوع مهم شيءًما. فقد لاحظت ان هناك محاولة حقيقية لوضع قوانين متقدمة للدولة، لكن هناك بعض الخلل فيهم خاصة اذا هناك بعض التمييز. -سموءل

اقرأوا:

المعاش الأدنى شيء جيد. لكن، الفكرة ليست للمواطنين فقط. يجب يكون للعاملين من الوافدين ايضاً.

ماذا لو "3000 درهم للكل؟" اكره الفكرة ان يكون معاشي قريب الـ3000 والوافد الذي له نفس الخبرة مثلي ان يكون معاشه اقل من 3000 في الشهر، "الحد الأدنى".

وكأن التمييز السلبي (حسب الجنسية الاماراتية) موجود، اليس ذلك؟

Here's a link to the song I'm Innocent, which is a song that is being created for the UNICEF fund here in Oman by my friend Neil Monteiro.

You can download it as many times as you want to for 30 whole days, after that the link is inactive.

But a request from me to you all.. download it, burn it onto a CD and pass it on to everyone else you know but before you hand a copy of the song to the other person make sure that they donate a small sum of money - no matter how big or small - towards the UNICEF.

لقد نشرت هذا المقال في مدونتي الخاصة و أردت أن أعرضها عليكم هنا. إنها منقولة عن صحيفة إنغليزية.

I hate the Daily Telegraph.

They publish pictures of Iraq as if it was Ireland. They are quite out of touch with anything South of Dover. They appeal to people who eat Fish wrapped with their paper.

I was bored today at work, but in our kitchen we sometimes have the Telegraph, and I read this article which is quite fascinating and should be re-published especially amongst the Arab and Muslim worlds. click here for article.

Below you shall find a few select paragraphs, but I strongly recommend reading the whole article:

"On a windswept hilltop in the middle of the West Bank, long-bearded, quick-to-laugh Rabbi Menachem Froman is preparing to desert the state of Israel."

And it continues..

"He will do it even though it was on the craggy hills outside his house in Tekoa that Rabbi Froman says his father once had a vision of Abraham leading Isaac to sacrifice.

Yet Rabbi Froman will not be moving an inch. Rather Tekoa, and Israel with it, will be leaving him.

This week it became clear that Tekoa, an isolated settlement south of Jerusalem, will almost certainly be abandoned by the state of Israel if - as is likely - the acting prime minister, Ehud Olmert, wins the general election on March 28."

This is the same prince of a man that said that he will finalise Israel's borders by 2010. We know this includes Al-Furat (Ephrates) but will you get to the Nile in four years?
Anyway, the story continues..

"This came as no surprise to Rabbi Froman. "I know that they plan to dismantle Tekoa, just like they did Gaza," he said, referring to Mr Sharon's forced evacuation of 8,000 settlers from the Gaza Strip last summer.

"But what matters is the holiness of this land. I prefer to live here in a future Palestine than leave to live in an Israeli state."

So Rabbi Froman has spent more than 20 years getting to know his neighbours. Both the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and assassinated Hamas chief Ahmed Yassin were "friends" whom he met several times.

"I had deep connections with Arafat," he said. "I visited Yassin in jail."

So here's an Israeli and a Jew that believes in human rights. Give this guy a medal. Make him known. Where is the media?

OK, so neither Arafat or Sheikh Yassin were angels, but at least this man stands for dialogue, and that is a good thing.

Around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) marks a celebration of the economic, social, cultural and political achievements for women.

The first IWD was held on 19 March 1911 in Germany, Austria, Denmark and further European countries. German women selected this date because in 1848 the Prussian king had promised the vote for women. Subsequently over one million leaflets calling for action on the right to vote were distributed throughout Germany before IWD in 1911. Now IWD is always celebrated on 8 March and is an occasion marked by women's groups around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. Women in every country, often divided by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, come together to celebrate this important date that represents equality, justice, peace and development.

International Women's Day is the story of ordinary women as makers of history; it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women seeking to participate equally in society on an equal footing with men. In ancient Greece, Lysistrata initiated a sexual strike against men in order to end war; during the French Revolution, Parisian women calling for "liberty, equality, fraternity" marched on Versailles to demand women's suffrage.

The idea of an International Women's Day first arose at the turn of the century, which in the industrialized world was a period of expansion and turbulence, booming population growth and radical ideologies.

Until women are fully represented at senior leadership levels of public, professional and economic life, women do not have equal rights nor an equal voice.

Following is a brief chronology of the most important events:

1909
In accordance with a declaration by the Socialist Party of America, the first National Woman's Day was observed across the United States on 28 February. Women continued to celebrate it on the last Sunday of that month through 1913. 1910 The Socialist International, meeting in Copenhagen, established a Women's Day, international in character, to honour the movement for women's rights and to assist in achieving universal suffrage for women. The proposal was greeted with unanimous approval by the conference of over 100 women from 17 countries, which included the first three women elected to the Finnish parliament. No fixed date was selected for the observance.

1911
As a result of the decision taken at Copenhagen the previous year, International Women's Day was marked for the first time (19 March) in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, where more than one million women and men attended rallies. In addition to the right to vote and to hold public office, they demanded the right to work, to vocational training and to an end to discrimination on the job. Less than a week later, on 25 March, the tragic Triangle Fire in New York City took the lives of more than 140 working girls, most of them Italian and Jewish immigrants. This event had a significant impact on labour legislation in the United States, and the working conditions leading up to the disaster were invoked during subsequent observances of International Women's Day.

1913-1914As part of the peace movement brewing on the eve of World War I, Russian women observed their first International Women's Day on the last Sunday in February 1913. Elsewhere in Europe, on or around 8 March of the following year, women held rallies either to protest the war or to express solidarity with their sisters.

1917
With 2 million Russian soldiers dead in the war, Russian women again chose the last Sunday in February to strike for "bread and peace". Political leaders opposed the timing of the strike, but the women went on anyway. The rest is history: Four days later the Czar was forced to abdicate and the provisional Government granted women the right to vote. That historic Sunday fell on 23 February on the Julian calendar then in use in Russia, but on 8 March on the Gregorian calendar in use elsewhere. Since those early years, International Women's Day has assumed a new global dimension for women in developed and developing countries alike.

The growing international women's movement has helped make IWD a special day for promoting women's rights and participation in political and economic processes. Increasingly, International Women's Day is a time to reflect on the progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of women's rights.

إسرائيل تسعى لاجتذاب الإماراتيين ... للسياحة

طلبت وزارة الخارجية الإسرائيلية من جهاز الأمن العام (الشاباك) تغيير الإجراءات الأمنية ازاء مواطني دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، مبررة هذا الطلب بالرغبة في تمكين السياح المسلمين من هذه الدولة العربية، ومن دول الخليج الغنية الأخرى، بزيارة إسرائيل وتشجيع قطاع السياحة فيها الذي تضرر بفعل الانتفاضة.
وأشارت صحيفة <<معاريف>> إلى أنه وبرغم القدرات المالية الهائلة المتوفرة في الإمارات والتي جعلتها مزاراً سياحياً للملايين، وأتاحت لها إقامة مناطق تزلج على الجليد وسط الصحراء وملاعب كرة مضرب بارتفاع عشرات الطوابق وفنادق مذهلة، فإن مواطنيها يفضلون السياحة في الخارج. وقالت إن الكثيرين من مواطني هذه الدولة يفكرون بزيارة الأماكن المقدسة في فلسطين.
وقالت <<معاريف>> إن الطلب الذي تقدّمت به الخارجية الإسرائيلية تمّ ايضاً بالشراكة مع وزارة الداخلية، المسؤولة عن إصدار تأشيرات الزيارة وإدارة المعابر الحدودية. وأكدت أنه قبل أيام عقد اجتماع ضم ممثلي الوزارتين للبحث في هذه القضية، حيث تمّ إبلاغهم أن الشاباك لم يقرر بعد كيفية الاستجابة لهذا الطلب.
وبموجب التعليمات الأمنية السارية في إسرائيل اليوم، تحظر السلطات دخول مواطني الدول الخليجية، عدا مواطني قطر، التي أقيمت فيها ممثلية تجارية إسرائيلية كبيرة. وأضافت <<معاريف>> أنه بحسب تقديرات مختلفة، فإن فتح أبواب الدولة اليهودية أمام السياح من هذه المنطقة سيتيح لعشرات الآلاف من الزوار، ومعظمهم من الأغنياء جداً، الدخول إليها وزيارة المواقع الإسلامية المقدسة.
وشدّدت الصحيفة على أن القدس المحتلة هي ثالث المدن الأقدس في الإسلام وخصوصاً بسبب الحرم القدسي والمسجد الأقصى الذي عرّج منه النبي محمد إلى السماء. وقالت إن السياح المسلمين الذين يزورون القدس يقومون في العادة بزيارة مناطق أخرى غير مرتبطة بالإسلام مثل الناصرة وعكا ويافا. كما أن بوسع السياح زيارة المدن في الضفة الغربية وخصوصاً رام الله وبيت لحم.
ورفض المتحدث باسم الشاباك التعليق على الخبر، غير أن مصدراً في الخارجية الإسرائيلية أبلغ الصحيفة أن رد جهاز الأمن لم يصل بعد، موضحاً أنه <<ليس مؤكدا أن يكون الرد لمصلحتنا. فالأمر بأيدي أجهزة الأمن وهو يدرس وفق المعايير الأمنية التي يفرضها الواقع>>.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن <<معاريف>> كانت قد نشرت قبل ثلاثة أيام أن وفداً إسرائيلياً رسمياً زار مدينة دبي قبل ثلاثة أسابيع، وأن الوفد الذي ترأسه يعقوب كيدر ودانئيل ميرون، وهما من كبار مسؤولي الخارجية الإسرائيلية، شارك في مؤتمر دولي حول شؤون البيئة.

Some think that the right thing to do these days is to always follow the crowd. At often that is the right answer, but more often it is good to stay rebelious to show the truth behind one's decision.

Westerners need to understand that when they come into our countries (respective of which nation it is) they should respect the society just as much as we do when we are in their country. This goes for wearing skimpy clothing, sleeveless t-shirts, and many outrageous fashions of clothing that, in their opinion, is the 'in' style.

Or should we retaliate in the same way?

Where does one hold the line for respecting one another?

My younger brother is getting so into Arabic poetry and reciting it, his Arabic teacher asked him once to show the other students how poetry should be recited; he went out and recited this:

يا صلعة لابي حفص ممردة
كأن ساحتها مرآة فولاذ
ترن تحت الأكف الواقعات بها
حتى ترن بها أكناف بغداد

Which he memorized from a satirical poetry book he found at home and the guy is basically saying that your bald is like a mirror, and if I touch it the sound would echo all over Baghdad.

The teacher got mad at him; even though I don't think she should have because it's Arabic poetry! My brother went on to tell her that 'it's Bin ElRomi' and to explain it to her the whole story of why he wrote it… she still didn't let him say another one.

I found that he knows more than I do, which is basically nothing. He told me this one too:

يقتر عيسى على نفسه
و ليس بباق و لا خالد
فلو يستطيع لتقتيره
تنفس من منخر واحد

Which is that this guy is saying that the other guy is so cheap and greedy that if he could he would breathe from only one nose. (One side!)

Amin Maalouf - Al 3amama

Dear readers,

Whist reading Amin Maalouf's latest book "Bidayat" which translates to "Beginnings" I came across these very interesting poems, or lines. This book relates to the beginnings of Amin Maalouf's family and his ancestors. These lines were written in Arabic by his grandfather "Bu6rus" who lived in Ottoman-occupied Lebanon.

These few lines are about how Butrus detested the stagnant intellectual of his country. He's sad about how they were so great and now in 1907 they are nothing. He asks us to look forward and to...

The last line of the poem is a work of genius, and because of it I wanted to post this poem.

A few words about the author:

Amin Maalouf is a Lebanese/French author who writes primarily in French. His works are translated into many languages including Arabic and English. He was born in 1949 in Lebanon and has moved to France when he was about 25 and has lived there ever since. He mainly writes fiction (fused with historical figures) in books such as Samarkand, The Rock of Tanios, Leo the African to note a few. His main non-fictional works are The Crusades Through Arab Eyes (a very interesting book) and his latest "Beginnings" from which these lines in Arabic are from.

It's a bit ironic that an Arab has to leave his country to advance his career then his books ultimately get written in a different language then translated back to Arabic for his compatriots to read. I've only read his works in English and Arabic, never the original French, but all the translations are very well done and to an exceptionally high standard.

War from "A child's perspective"

Mom tells me we’re now at war.
Our land is in solitary confinement,

And now because of the bad dry weather,

we've lost our fields of corn.

Those kind people who gave us food,

have all now started leaving.

Mom tried to explain, I never understood,

she said the country's soul is bleeding.

Right now I'm sitting in a bus,

but I don't know where we're going.

I just wish someone would help us,

mom's eyes have now stopped glowing.

My older brother didn't want to follow,

he said he had to stay and fight.

I asked mom if I'd get to see him tomorrow,

she said if God wishes, I might.

Whenever I ask the question why,

the world is angry with her and me,

tears appear and she starts to cry,

saying "my child if only you live to see".

Mr. President, mom says that because of you,

we have to leave our homes forever.

I still don't know what wrong did we do?

Now my family's no longer together.

This poem was orginally written from the perspective of an afghan girl, but indeed, and alas, it is applicable to children suffering today all over the world.

Abu Ghraib, More Pictures, More Provocation

I'm starting to wonder...
If this is all a ruse, the US wants out but can't seem to escape Iraq so what better way than to cause more provocation, ergo they must leave, therefore, crazy fanatics and everyone elses emotions that have run high call for reprecussions for these actions.

What do they do, take time for a military court, the accused will be suspended then punished appropriately and court marshalled. You see the US is civilised that is how they punish one who has a wonderful hand in atrocities - Look at the farce called Saddam Hussein! He must have a trial to show him the right path to democracy. Please do that on your own time for us Iraqi's we've had enough, give him the same justice that he has dealt to his own people for years.

WHY? Why is it that he sits in a luxury prison without being abused like those in the pictures and others have their own excrement smeared on their faces?

When is enough pain and torture for the Iraqi people, there's Saddam, his bunch of thugs (who won't stop unless he DIES), the americans, blind idiotic fanatics who think God Almighty has blessed them with his sword of justice, simple-minded bored individuals who have no direction and feel that they do not belong in society, who join groups that give them importance and claim they know the way to God through their own definition of Jihad.

All of that for Iraqis. Have we not paid our dues, if any, to history life, existence & humanity? Enough.

وكيف تهاونت الجمعيات التعاونية

وسمحت لنفسها التلاعب ببيانات اللحم وادراجه منتج محلي في حين انه منتج هندي ( للعلم: الهندي ارخص )

Breaking Media's Monopoly

Since I can't write in Arabic, so I'm going to post in English, unless someone kindly takes the initiative and briefly summarises in Arabic =)

I bumped into an article on Syrian bloggers, which mainly circled around people blogging about different issues, yet having one purpose: giving the outside world a picture of Syria.

In a country that is under the spotlight, especially after Hariri's death, many resort to the media to help understand or get an image of the country. As we all know, media is one of the most unreliable things in this world, after condoms. And these days, people automatically look to blogs to understand the people. After all, the 'real' people who live in the country are more reliable than the fleeting journalists, who stop by for a few hours, see a few explosions, run away to another country and decide that the country really is a hotspot for 'terrorism'.

Gone are the days when blogging meant writing personal diaries; it has gotten huge. As bloggers, we now have bigger 'responsibility' to present the real picture. Blogging is serious! But of course, censorship is the key obstacle. What should be shown and what should not...but why cover the real picture? If they have the guts to do something, then have the guts to hear people talk about it. After all, it's the decisions of so-called 'leaders' which affect the generic population. So why won't they talk.

This article talks about a few bloggers; some blog to discuss political happenings in Syria, while some blog to show the historic aspect of this country.

Moral of the story: Every human and (even) a country has many faces, don't let the media decide which one you should see. Be open-minded. We're in a world where we can no longer trust one source.

Unfortunately, my browser does not support Arabic language. But I won't leave that as an obstacle to stop my path in participating in this blog even though all of it is in Arabic. Perhaps the others can help me afterwards in making 'tables turn' for me.

For now, this will have to do.

There is a deep need to think about solutions for the world that we are slowly detoriating it's moral habits through our children and the generations to come afterwards. How is it that they got to be so much worse when we predicted that we would all have a better future altogether when the contrary is what's happening?

Morality is now thrown out of the window. Blasphemous is now welcomed with open arms. And the main drive is lust and not love. Nothing is sacred anymore.

Whatever will we do?

في هذه الآيام العصيبة لا بد آن نقف لحظة لنتآمل العلاقة بين حماس و فيلم سبيلبرغ الجديد ميونخ.

آولا عن حماس. لمده طويلة و الغرب عامة و آمريكا خاصة تدعونا نحن العرب آن نعتنق الدمقراطية. الدعوة هذه موجه بالذات للعراق و فلسطين. المضحك آن الغرب دائم الربط بين الدمقراطية و السلام. يعتبر الغرب آن العراق بلد دمقراطي على الطراز الآمريكي ما شاء الله السلام شائع في العراق! آما الموضوع الآخطر هو الحاله الفلسطينية. بإنتخاب حماس شرعيا و رغم آنف الغرب يصعب علي ان آتخيل سلام شامل و الآراضي المحتلة ولكني فرح بنتيجة الإنتخابات لعل هذا يدفع الغرب الى العودة الى الماضي و الإدراك آن سبب ولادة حماس ليس لحبنا للقتل و البطش آو لكرهنا لليهود بل لمقاومة الإحتلال.

آما عن الفلم الجديد. لا بد آنه سوف تصل آرباحه في الملايين ولكن الفللم بدل آن يعالج الآسباب وراء الحادث المفجع اللذي حصل في ١٩٧٢ آختار المخرج اليهودي آن يرسم الشعب الإسرائيلي كالشعب البريئ المسالم و الفلسطينيون كمجرمين. مثلا البطل الذي كان رئيس فرقة الموساد المكلفة بإغتيال مدبرين عملية ميونخ صور كآب حنون و زوج رقيق في النهار و لكن عندما يسود الليل فإنه يتعطش لدماء العرب!يجب علي آن آقول آن الفلم يحاول آن يعرض وجهة النظر العربية وكن من الواضح آن الكفة الراجحة للإسرائيليون في هذا الفلم

إني رآيت هذا الفلم في بريطانيا و لكن آآمل آن يعرض بشكل كامل على شاشات الإمارات.

ربما بعد عقود من الزمان و الشعب الفلسطيني يصوت بشهدائه و آيام قليله من التصويت بالورق سيفهم الغرب آسباب، دوافع و رغبات الشارع العربي و ربما سينعم آولادنا آو آحفادنا بالسلام. ولكن آليس عبد الناصر اللذي قال: "ما يؤخذ بالقوة لا يسترد إلا بالقوة"؟

التجربة الدنمركية

لا شك من أن العديد من متابعي الأخبار على قناتي العربية والجزيرة لاحظوا تطورات قضية إساءة الصحيفة الدنماركية لشخص الرسول الكريم صلى الله عليه وسلم . وكما ذكر في عدد اليوم من صحيفة الإمارات اليوم، قادت الجموع والمؤسسات السعودية والكويتية والأردنية حملة مقاطعة شعبية كاملة لجميع المنتجات الدنيماركية وما يمت لها من صلة، وذلك رداً على تجاهل الحكومة والمؤسسات الدنماركية للموقف وعدم الإعتذار للمجتمع الإسلامي وتبرير تصرفها بمفهوم حرية الرأي والتعبير.

والظاهر أنه جهود إخواننا في الكويت والسعودية والأردن ومصر والدول التي تفاعلت مع هذه المؤسسة باتت تجني ثمارها.

فقد تم نشر اعتذار كامل موجه للشعب السعودي على موقع الصحيفة الدنماركية المقصودة

عدة أسئلة تخطر على بالي حالياً: أهمها هو ماذا عن باقي الشعوب العربية والإسلامية التي تم توجيه الإهانة لها، ألا تستحق الإعتذار؟ والسؤال الثاني موجه للمجتمعات في الإمارات من مواطنين ومقيمين. ماذا كان دوركم في هذه الأزمة؟ لماذا لم يكن هناك تفاعل شعبي ملحوظ كما هو الحال في السعودية والكويت والأردن؟
